Those who know her well call her Prylster, and only her sister is allowed
to call her Ape. She was born and raised in Denver, attended Colorado
State University for both undergraduate studies (in microbiology) and
veterinary school. In May of 1997 she obtained her Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine degree cum laude. From graduation until 1999 she worked at a
small animal practice in Cherry Hills, which prepared her (somewhat)
for owning her own small animal hospital in Washington Park.
Currently
Dr. Steele is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Society, the
American Animal Hospital Association, the Colorado Veterinary Medical
Association, the Human-Animal Bond Veterinarians, and she is the President
of the Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society. While some might say that
taking on the DAVMS presidency is the craziest thing Dr. Steele has ever
done, she thinks that joining the Army to lend moral support to a friend
during basic training qualifies as nuts (especially considering that
friend never showed up for basic training!). Her favorite phrase is “Good
News!” and her least favorite is “Uh Oh”. When asked
about what she enjoys about her job, Dr. Steele expresses her appreciation
of being a part of the special bond that exists between people and their
pets.
